CDO police ready for Black Nazarene feast

MANILA, Philippines -- The Cagayan de Oro (CDO) police are ready for the thousands of devotees expected to attend the procession of the replica Black Nazarene Monday afternoon.

Over 1,000 policemen will be deployed from the CDO regional headquarters and other Philippine National Police units in the region.

Around 4,000 to 5,000 devotees from Visayas and Mindanao are expected to attend the procession, but organizers believe even more people may attend after the recent devastation brought about by tropical storm Sendong.

Devotees from Iligan City are also expected to arrive.

The procession of the Black Nazarene replica will start at 3 pm from Barangay Lapasan and is expected to end at the Nazareno Parish Church at 8 pm.

Surigao del Norte Bishop Antonieto Cabahug will celebrate a mass at 7:30 am.

In 2009, the Quiapo Church in Manila turned over a replica of the Black Nazarene to the Nazareno Parish.
